Introduction
Placental Growth Factor (PLGF) is a key angiogenic protein primarily produced by the placenta during pregnancy.
It plays a vital role in stimulating the development of the placental blood vessel network, ensuring adequate blood flow and nutrient transfer to the developing fetus.
In cases of placental insufficiency, maternal blood levels of PLGF are abnormally low, often serving as an early indicator of pregnancy complications well before clinical symptoms appear.
It is frequently used in combination with sFlt-1 (Soluble Fms-Like Tyrosine Kinase 1) to calculate the sFlt-1/PLGF ratio, which is recognized globally as a highly accurate predictive and diagnostic tool for preeclampsia.
Clinical Applications
Assessment of placental insufficiency.
Prediction, identification, and treatment monitoring of resulting preeclampsia.
