•Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a glycoprotein hormone composed of α and β subunits through non-covalent bonds, secreted by placental syncytiotrophoblasts, with a relative molecular mass of 37.5×103.
•The current research results show that HCG can also be secreted by the pituitary gland, and HCG is found in the body and tumor cells of many non-trophoblastic tumors and even non-gynecological tumors in the human body, and the positive rate and titer are high.
•With the continuous deepening of HCG research, the detection of HCG, especially β-HCG, will have more important significance in clinical application.
•《Chinese Expert Consensus on Progesterone Maintenance of Early Pregnancy and Prevention of Abortion” (2016)》
For the situations that require the use of progesterone, it is not recommended to monitor the peripheral blood progesterone level as a routine evaluation indicator; dynamic monitoring of the blood β-HCG level before 8-10 weeks of pregnancy can be used to understand the embryonic development.
The timing of discontinuation of early threatened abortion is that after the medication, the clinical symptoms improve until disappearance, and the B-ultrasound examination indicates that the embryo survives and the pregnancy can continue. The medication can be discontinued after 1 to 2 weeks of continued use; or the medication can be continued until the 8 to 10 weeks of pregnancy. If during the treatment, the clinical symptoms worsen, the β-HCG level does not rise or falls continuously, and the B-ultrasound examination indicates that the abortion is inevitable, considering that the abortion is inevitable, the drug should be discontinued and the pregnancy should be terminated.
